David Tang's Foreword exhibition in New-York, Nov 1998

I am delighted, at Shanghai Tang, to introduce a Chinese star. Mr. Yin Xin will be lending us reflected glory through his newest collection of painting which exude that rare dual quality of the old Chinese and the new Chinese. Mr. Yin Xin was born in exotic kashagr and educated at the equally ancient cities of xian and peking from where he soaked up a great deal of Chinese tradition, including the more modern experience of being a political poster painter during the harsh cultural revolution. Luckily his innate talent was able to develop further when he won a scholarship to study in Australia and subsequently managed to travel in America and Europe. He now spends most of his time in Paris. His varied life has enabled him to feel very much for the east and west, the new and the old-juxtapositions which shanghai tang fervently believes in. Mr. Yin Xin's present collection speaks best for itself and in the spirit of reinterpreting western ideas through his Chinese eyes. The texture is rich, the composition measured, the colures subtle and there is an unmistakable Chinese charm. Charmed, indeed, we shall all be, by these paintings with which Shanghai Tang and I are proud to be associated.
